"The third period, we weren't as good as we need to be," said Leaf's head coach, Mike Babcock, at the post game press conference.
The Leafs started out good in the first period, though.
"I thought we had an outstanding start," said Babcock.
Unfortunately, the Islanders went ahead 2-0 in the first period with goals by Mathew Barzal and Anthony Beauvillier.
The Leafs tied the game in the second period with goals by Kasperi Kapanen and William Nylander.
Beauvillier scored again at 16:43 of the second, putting New York ahead again 3-2.
Anthony Beauvillier scored two goals last night in 5-4 Islanders win over Toronto.
Derick Brassard made it a 4-2 game at 8:07 of the third period.
Casey Citizkas added an empty netter at 17:32.
Toronto, however, weren't quite done scoring.
Justin Holl scored at 18:13 and John Tavares scored at 19:22.
Tavares finished the night with two points.
Brassard had a three point night.
Toronto hosts the Boston Bruins tomorrow night.
