Marner Gets Five Points In Rollercoaster Leaf's Win

It was a special day at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto yesterday.

It was the Next Generation Game.

It was all about the kids as the youngsters took over the building.

"I think the whole concept is outstanding," said Leaf's head coach, Sheldon Keefe.  "Its nice to be a part of that."

As for the game, it was a rollercoaster ride for both teams as the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 8-6.

The Leafs went ahead 3-0 quickly in the first period with goals by Jason Spezza, William Nylander, and John Tavares.

Carolina battled back late in the period with goals by Brock McGinn and Martin Necas.

In the second period, it was all Hurricanes.

Necas scored his second goal at 15:09.

20 seconds later, Erik Haula scored to put the Canes' ahead 4-3.

Andrei Svachnikov put Carolina up 5-3 at 16:13.

Fortunately for Toronto, the team bounced back in the third period.

Auston Matthews scored at 2:35.

Haula scored his second goal at 5:58.

Mitch Marner scored at 11:01.

53 seconds later, Tyson Barrie tied the game 6-6.

Marner put the Leafs ahead at 12:00.

Marner ended the day with five points.

Mitch Marner had five points in yesterday's game.

Pierre Engvall put the game on ice with an empty-netter at 18:20.

Necas had four points and Haula had three points.

Leaf's Zach Hyman had two assists.

Toronto's goalie, Frederik Andersen, stopped 34 shots.

Toronto travels to New Jersey on Friday to face the Devils.

Matthews, Hyman Scores Two And Hutchinson Records His First Win

Finally, Toronto Maple Leaf's backup goalie, Michael Hutchinson, got his first win of the season last night.

Hutchinson made 29 saves in a 4-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings.

There was no scoring in the first period.

Zach Hyman opened the scoring at 17:10 of the second period.

Auston Matthews put the Leaf's ahead 2-0 at 2:18 of the third period on a power play.

"I think our special teams have really sort of given us confidence," said Leaf's head coach, Sheldon Keefe after the game.

Keefe also credited the team's depth for their recent success.

Hyman scored his second goal of the game at 8:51.

Matthews put his team up 4-0 at 13:39.

Both Matthews and Hyman had a three point night.

Unfortunately, Hutchinson was robbed of a shut out when Tyler Bertuzzi scored at 18:16.

Toronto's Mitch Marner had two assists.

Toronto plays an afternoon game tomorrow against the visiting Carolina Hurricanes.

Nylander, Marner Scores Two In Win Over Rangers

It is good times in Leaf Nation now days as the Toronto Maple Leafs won, yet, again.

Last night, the Leafs defeated the New York Rangers at Madison Square Gardens 6-3 with three unanswered goals in the third period.

Pierre Engvall got things going with a goal at 4:38 of the first period.

William Nylander put Toronto ahead 2-0 at 11:52.

The Rangers, however, rallied back before the period was over.

Brady Skjei scored at 14:04.

Ryan Strome tied the game 2-2 at 17:51.

Mitch Marner put the Leafs ahead again with a power play goal at 2:50 of the second period.

Paval Buchnevich tied the game at 5:57.

Buchnevich had a two point night.

Nylander, Marner and Ilya Mikheyev scored for Toronto in the third period.

Toronto's Austin had two assists.

Ranger's goalie, Alexandar Georgiev stopped 34 shots. 

Preview: Red Wings Versus Leafs


Tonight 7 p.m. EST.

Scotiabank Arena, Toronto, ONT.

On November 27, the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Detroit Red Wings 6-0.

Michael Hutchinson is in goal for the Leafs tonight and hoping to get his first win of the season.

Hutchinson is 0-5-1 this season.

As for the Wings, they'll have Jonathan Bernier in net tonight.

Detroit has lost two straight games.

Toronto's Auston Matthews scored his 20th goal on Tuesday night in a 5-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres.

Matthews Scores His 20th Goal Of the Season In Win Over Sabres

It was a huge night for Toronto Maple Leaf's Auston Matthews.

Matthews scored two goals last night, including his 20th of the season in a 5-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres.

"I really liked our start to the game," said Leaf's head coach, Sheldon Keefe after the game.

Frederik Gauthier put the Leafs ahead 1-0 at 2:30 of the first period.

Matthews scored back-to-back goals at 4:47 and 17:39 of the second period.

Keefe said at the post game press conference that he wasn't too pleased with the way his team played in the second period.

"I didn't like a lot of our game in the second period," said Keefe.

Buffalo got on the scoreboard just 1:29 into the third period with a goal by Rasmus Dahlin.

Dmytro Timashov put the Leafs up by three goals again at 4:58.

Jack Eichel scored 6:30.

Kyle Okposo made it a 4-3 game at 14:41.

Fortunately for Toronto, Ilya Mikheyev scored a short handed, empty net goal at 17:26.

Buffalo's Victor Olofsson had two assists.

Toronto's Tyson Barrie also had two assists last night.

Toronto is off for two days before the team heads to New York to face the Rangers on Friday night.

Preview: Sabres Versus Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs finished their recent road trip 3-1-0 and are 7-4-0 in their last 11 games.

The Buffalo Sabres are 5-1-4 in their last 10 games.

When the two teams met on November 30, Toronto won in overtime 2-1.

Andersen Becomes The Fastest European Goalie To Reach 200 Wins

Last night's 4-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers was a special victory for Toronto Maple Leaf's goalie, Frederik Andersen.

It was Andersen's 200th career win.

Also, Andersen becomes the fastest European goalie to reach the 200 win plateau.

"A great little accomplishment for him, (Andersen)," said Leaf's head coach, Sheldon Keefe at the
postgame conference.

Andersen stopped 36 shots last night.

Alexander Kerfoot opened the scoring at 4:38 of the first period.

Ilya Mikheyev scored Toronto's second goal at 5:27 of the second period.

Edmonton got back into the game when Alex Chiasson scored a power play goal at 6:08 of the third period.

Fortunately for Toronto, Frederik Gauthier scored at 13:49 to put the Leafs ahead 3-1.

Mitch Marner added an empty netter at 18:39.

Kerfoot had a two point night.

Kerfoot's teammate, Pierre Engvall had two assists.

Toronto has two days off before hosting the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night.

Preview: Leafs Versus Oilers

Rogers Place, Edmonton, ALB.

The Edmonton Oilers started the season on a winning note.

Lately, though, the Oilers have cooled off a little.

Edmonton has lost three straight games.

Edmonton's Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl have 20 goals this season.

As for the Toronto Maple Leafs, they're 2-1 on their recent road trip.

The Leaf's Mitch Marner has six points in five games.

Johnny Hockey Scores Two Goals As Flames Down Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs started out okay last night, but ended up losing to the Calgary Flames 4-2.

Toronto's Captain, John Tavares, opened the scoring at 8:24 of the first period.

Travis Harmonic tied the game at 16:23.

The Leafs went ahead again at 14:06 of the second period with a goal by Mitch Marner.

Just 19 seconds into the third period, Johnny Gaudreau tied the game.

Johnny Gaudreau scored two goals last night.

Micheal Frolik put Calgary ahead 3-2 with a goal at 1:59.

Gaudreau scored his second goal of the game at 2:49.

Tavares and Marner had two points last night.

Calgary's Sean Monahan had two assists.

Flame's goalie, David Rittich stopped 32 shots last night.

Toronto is headed to Edmonton to face the Oilers tomorrow night.

The Calgary Flames have won six straight and are 7-0-1 in their last eight games.

Tavares Scores Two Against Vancouver

John Tavares scored two goals in Leaf's win.

The Toronto Maple Leaf's big guns are starting to click.

The Leafs are 6-3-1 since Sheldon Keefe has taken over coaching duties.

Toronto defeated the Vancouver Canucks last night 4-1.

There was no scoring in the first period.

Auston Matthews put the Leafs ahead 1-0 1:45 into the second period

It was Matthew's 19th goal of the season.

John Tavares made it a 2-0 Toronto with 20 seconds to go in the period.

Josh Leivo got Vancouver back into the game at 11:14 of the third period.

Fortunately for the Leafs, Tavares scored again at 14:58.

Tavares had a three point night.

Zach Hyman put a cap on the game with an empty net goal at 18:16.

Leaf's goalie, Frederik Andersen, ought to get some credit.

Andersen prevented Vancouver from scoring by stopping 38 shots.

Toronto's Mitch Marner and Justin Holl both had two assists last night.

Toronto is in Calgary tomorrow night to play the Flames.

The Toronto Maple Leafs snapped their two game losing streak on Saturday night, defeating the St. Louis Blues 5-2.

Matthews, Hyman Scores Two Goals In Leafs Win

Toronto Maple Leaf's Auston Matthews and Zach Hyman had the scoring touch last night.

Both players had two goals in a 5-2 win over the St. Louis Blues.

Hyman scored just 2:50 into the game.

Ivan Barbashev tied the game at 4:35.

Auston Matthews put the Leafs ahead again with a goal at 6:51.

Then, Hyman scored a short handed goal at 9:12.

Jason Spezza made it 4-1 Leafs with a power play goal at 12:57.

Matthews scored a power play goal at 9:29 of the second period.

"We were really good on special teams," said Leaf's head coach, Sheldon Keefe after the game.

David Perron scored St. Louis's second goal at 2:02 of the third period.

Toronto's Mitch Marner had two assists last night.

The Leafs are off for two days before heading off to Vancouver to take on the Canucks on Tuesday night.

Grubauer stones Leafs

There is no question that Colorado Avalanche's goalie, Phiipp Grubauer stoned the Toronto Maple Leafs last night.

Grubauer stopped 38 shots in a 3-1 Avalanche win.

There was no scoring in the first period.

Nathan McKinnon scored on the power play at 10:52 of the second period.

Zach Hyman tied the game at 12:42.

Valeri Nichuskin put the Avs. ahead again with a short handed goal at 6:40 of the third period.

With the extra attacker, the Leafs frantically tried to tie the game.

Grubauer, however, put a wall in front off him.

Joonas Donskoi sealed the deal for the Avalanche with an empty netter at 18:41.

Despite the loss, Leaf's head coach, Sheldon Keefe, was pleased with his team's performance.

"I thought we stayed in the game all the way through," said Keefe.

McKinnon had a two point night.

Toronto is off for two days before heading top St. Louis on Saturday to take on the Blues.

Leafs Suffer Terrible Loss

The Toronto Maple Leafs completely fell apart last night in the third period as the Philadelphia Flyers won 6-1.

There was no scoring in the first period.

Scott Laughton scored for the Flyers at 8:49 of the second period.

Travis Dermott tied the game at 8:38 of the third period and it ended up being Toronto's lone goal of the game.

At 10:00 Claude Giroux put Philadelphia ahead again.

Then, Travis Konecny made it 3-1 Philadelphia at 16:32.

Joel Farabee scored an empty netter at 17:54.

Then, Shayne Gostisbehere and James Van Riemsdyk scored.

Flyer's Philippe Myers had three assists last night.

The really good news for the Toronto Maple Leafs is Mitch Marner is back in the line up tonight.

Marner missed 11 games with an ankle injury.

Also, it was just confirmed that Frederik Andersen is in net for the Leafs tonight.

As for the Colorado Avalanche, the team has won eight of their last 11 games.

The last time the two teams met on November 2, Toronto won 5-3.

Preview: Leafs Versus Flyers

Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, PENN.

The last time the two teams met on November 2, the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 in an 11 round shoot out.

There's a possibility that the same thing is going to happen tonight.

Why?

It is because both teams are hot, especially the Flyers.

Philadelphia is 15-7-5 this season and was 10-2-4 in November.

The Flyers are currently on a four game winning streak.

As for Toronto, the team has won four out of their five games.

Tavares Scores Winner In O.T.

I have to admit.

I wasn't too pleased on the way the Toronto Maple Leafs played against the Buffalo Sabres last night.

I mean, it is the Sabres.

Going into last night's game, the Sabres were 3-8-3 in their last 14 games.

The Leafs ought of outplayed Buffalo.

You have to give credit to Sabre's goalie, Carter Hutton, though.

He stopped an astonishing 41 shots last night.

Anyway, the Leafs did get the job done, winning 2-1 in overtime.

"We found a way to get the two points," said Leaf's head coach, Sheldon Keefe.

There was absolutely no scoring in the first period.

William Nylander scored a power play goal at 5:30 of the second period to put the Leafs ahead 1-0.

Rasmus Ristalainen tied the game at 6:58 of the third period.

1:45 into overtime, Leaf's captain, John Tavares, scored the winner.

Tavares had two points last night.

Toronto has a two day rest before heading to Philadelphia on Tuesday to take on the Flyers.
