Opinion: Tom Wilson Is Nothing, But A Goon

Tough guy, Tom Wilson

As you all know by now what happened on Monday night at Madison Square Garden in New York.

A brawl broke out between the Washington Capitals and the New York Rangers.

In the middle of the brawl was Capital's tough guy, Tom Wilson.

Wilson pummelled Ranger's star player, Artemi Panarin and threw punches to his head.

Panarin had no helmet on.

This is sickening.

What's even worse, the NHL just fined Wilson $5,000 for the incident, no suspension.

Social media was buzzing yesterday about the incident.

The Rangers, of course, are disgusted with the league's decision.

Why is there such an uproar over Wilson?

It is because this is not the first time Wilson has been in trouble with the league.

In March, Wilson was suspended seven games for an illegal hit to the head of Boston Bruin's Brandon Carlo.  Carlo suffered a head injury.

In May, 2018, Wilson was suspended three playoff games for an illegal check on Pittsburgh Penguin's Zach Aston-Reese.

Then, in October 2018, Wilson was suspended 14 games for an illegal hit on St. Louis Blue's Oskar Sundqvist.

To me, Wilson is nothing, but a goon.

Tonight, the Rangers and Capitals square off again at the Gardens.

It is going to be tense.

I  guarantee it.

Rumour Mill: Is There Trouble In Columbus?

Columbus Blue Jacket's John Tortorella is known as a no nonsense coach, but has he gone too far.

At the beginning of the season, there were rumours that Tortorella and Pierre-Luc Dubios weren't getting along.

Then, all of a sudden, Columbus traded Dubois to the Winnipeg Jets for Patrik Laine.

Pierre-Luc Dubois

Problem solved right?

No.

Shortly after Laine started playing with Columbus, Tortorella benched him.

This created rumours of Laine and Tortorella butting heads.

Laine quickly dismissed the allegations and said he was responsible.

Last week, however, it happened again.

Tortorella benched Laine for the last seven minutes of a game.

John Tortorella

That sparred more rumours about Laine's and Tortorella's relationship.

Patrik Laine.

Is Torella's time in Columbus is almost up?

The team is not playing that good lately.

Columbus is 11-12 and is fifth in the Central division.

The Blue Jackets are also 3-5-2 in the last 10 games.

I wonder if the rumours are true about Laine and Tororella, this is why the team is having little success.

I also wonder what's going to happen to Columbus down the road.

Time will tell I guess.

Brees Calls It Quits

Drew Brees says goodbye to football

After a 20 year successful career, New Orleans Saint's quarterback, Drew Brees has called it quits.

Brees was drafted in the second round by the San Diego Chargers in 2001.

Brees played five years in San Diego before joining the Saints in 2006.

There, (New Orleans), Brees didn't play as a second rounder.

In the 15 seasons with the Saints  Brees had a Hall Of Fame career.

He led the Saints to nine playoff runs, seven division titles, three National Football Conference Championship game appearances, and the franchise's first Super Bowl title in Super Bowl XLIV.

He was Super Bowl XLIV's Most Valuable Player.

Brees played 287 regular season games, had a 172-114 career record, 7,142 completions, 80,358 passing yards, and 571 touchdowns.

In rushing, Brees had 498 attempts, 752 yards, and 25 touchdowns.

In the postseason, Brees played 18 games, had a 9-9 record, 481 completions, 5,366 passing yards and 37 touchdowns.

In rushing, Brees had 40 attempts, 50 yards, and no touchdowns.

Dak Gets New Deal

Dak Prescott signs huge deal

I know that it has been a while since I wrote an entry in this blog

.

I'm writing today because there was a huge signing in the National Football League this week.

Quarterback, Dak Prescott has finally signed a new contract with the Dallas Cowboys.

Prescott signed a four-year, $160 million contract with the team.

I do wonder, though, if Prescott is worth this amount of money.

During the five seasons with the Cowboys, Prescott has won the Rookie Of The Year, (2016), is a two time Pro Bowler, and has a 42-27 record.

With all this on his resume, it is hard to say no to the fact that Prescott didn't earned the contract.

Here is my problem with the contract.

Prescott hardly played last season.

First he held out for a new contract and then he suffered a season ending ankle injury in week five.

Is Prescott going to play as a two time Pro Bowler next year or is he going to fail.

There's a good amount of pressure on him now.

Why do I say this?

Remember what happened to Carson Wentz when he signed a big contract with the Philadelphia Eagles.  That guy is with the Indianapolis Colts.
