Doughty Signs Extension. Capitals Hire New Coach

(Above), Drew Doughty signed a eight-year, $88 million contract extension yesterday.

With just a year to go on his eight-year, $56 million deal he signed in 2011, Drew Doughty agreed to a eight-year, $88 million contract extension with the Los Angeles Kings yesterday.

Doughty is among the top 10 defencemen in the National Hockey League.

In 2017-18, he had a career high of 60 points.

Doughty has two Stanley Cup titles and two Olympic gold medals playing for Team Canada.

Doughty also won the Norris Trophy, (league's top defeceman), in 2016.

In his 10 year career, entirely with the Kings, Doughty has 102 goals, 320 assists, and 422 points.  He has also appeared in 84 playoff games and has 51 postseason points.

Capitals Hire New Coach

Yesterday, the Washington Capitals announced that the club has hired Todd Reirden as their new head coach to replace Barry Trotz, who resigned a few weeks ago.

Reirden has spent for years with the Capitals as an assistant and an associate coach.
